Trade and economic issues affecting countries governed by the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) are examined, focusing on the decreasing chances in 2000 that a free trade bill concerning the US, Caribbean Basin, and sub-Saharan Africa will be passed by the US Congress. Topics also include reports that NAFTA has increased jobs despite protests by labor unions it would decrease jobs, and US efforts to allow more international telecommunication competition.
