Netscape plays it cool as rival is sued
Article Abstract:
Netscape Communications Corp. is being perceived as dependent on the Justice Department's antitrust suit against Microsoft to maintain its market position, or even to survive. The suit focusing on Microsoft's browser comes too late to help - to maintain market share, Netscape began to give away its browser for free in January 1998, killing a business that was worth $180 million in 1996. Netscape current operates two businesses: selling Web management software (worth about $400 million annually) and selling ads and services on its Web site (worth about $100 million annually).

Lilly pays big fee up front to share in rival of Viagra
Article Abstract:
Icos Corp., a biotechnology company which owns the rights to a new anti-impotency drug, will form a joint venture with Eli Lilly and Company. Industry analysts have said that Eli Lilly has agreed to pay a $75 million up-front fee to Bothell-Wash.-based Icos as part of an agreement for the joint development, marketing and sale of the drug, known as IC351. Analysts also report that the drug may be superior to Viagra, Pfizer's best-selling anti-impotency drug, because it is more selective in blocking the enzyme that prevents erections.
