New evidence in the pursuit of locating new businesses
Article Abstract:
The most common sources of information about new and existing businesses in a locality are the state's unemployment insurance files (ES202), Dun and Bradstreet's Dun's Market Indicator files (DMI), state sales tax files and phonebooks. A comparison of the various sources of business information, reveals that state sales tax files are the most accurate and reliable. Phonebooks, ES202 and DMI have been shown to be inaccurate because these are slow in removing firms that have closed down from their lists.
