New life for liquid gold of ancient Greece
Article Abstract:
Australian olive oil production has soared as its proponents promote its health and culinary benefits. Sales of Australian olive oil products in 1998 were $115 million, up from $30 million in 1988. Local producers will need to capture about 30% to 40% of the domestic market to sell their stock. The Australian industry is not unified, however, and grocery market supplies of local product are small. Market analyst Edith Gomez suggests producers think more about quality and consumer needs.
