New referendum on abortion set
Article Abstract:
Irish Prime Minister Albert Reynolds announced on Apr 7, 1992, that a national referendum on abortion would be held at a date to be specified later. Abortion had been outlawed in most cases by a 1983 referendum, but a girl was permitted to have an abortion in Mar 1992.

Divorce approved in referendum
Article Abstract:
A vote recount reaffirmed the referendum calling for an end to Ireland's constitutional ban on divorce. The narrow approval was 50.3% to 49.7%. The Roman Catholic Church allowed Irish citizens to vote freely instead of demanding that they vote against the referendum.

Bishops reject letter on women's roles
