Borg-Warner to buy Kuhlman Corp. in bid to increase diesel market share

Illinois-based Borg-Warner announced it will acquire Juhlman Corp. for $660 million in cash and stock. B-W is interested in the diesel engine parts that Kuhlman makes. It will sell off the firms other lines of business. B-W is primarily in automatic transmissions and those for automobiles. Expansion into the diesel engine arena will take the company into commercial truck parts as well, an area it has not provided parts for before.

News Corp. reports $233 million profit as nearly all units show improvement
Article Abstract:
News Corp. posted $233 million in net income for the fiscal fourth-quarter of 1998. During the same period in 1997, the company posted $270 million in write-down related losses. All of News Corp.'s business, with the exception of its newspapers, showed improved performances. The full-year net income of the company more than doubled to $1.14 billion. In 1997, News Corp. posted net income of $561 million.
