Chemical, Chase Manhattan to merge in $10 billion deal

The $10 billion stock-swap merger between Chemical Banking Corp and Chase Manhattan Corp will create the largest bank in the US, with assets of around $297 billion. It will be called Chase Manhattan. The merger, announced on Aug 28, 1995, is expected to result in job cuts and branch closures.
