House seeks EPA curbs in spending bill
Article Abstract:
The House passed the VA-HUD appropriations bill on Jul 31, 1995, by a vote of 212-206. The bill contains 17 provisions that limit the EPA's regulation of air pollution. It also reduces the EPA's budget from $7.24 billion in FY 1995, to $4.89 billion in FY 1996. Pres Clinton says he will veto the bill.

Clinton to sign biodiversity pact
Article Abstract:
Pres Clinton planned to sign a biodiversity agreement that had been developed at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. The pact covered the protection of plants and animals and the sharing of biotechnology profits with developing countries.

Northwest timber compromise unveiled
Article Abstract:
Pres Clinton announced a plan Jul 1, 1993, that would allow limited logging in the old-growth forests of the Pacific Northwest. The plan would set aside preserves for the endangered spotted owl. Both environmental groups and the timber industry criticized the plan.
