Stocks in the newspaper industry have regained the ground they lost in the year 2000 and are performing better in 2001. Business conditions for the industry have become tighter and retail advertisers are more wary, as well, putting pressure on margins. There are several good stocks in this industry for the next three to five years.

Stocks of the newspaper industry have plummeted in late 2001 with the decline in advertising revenues and newspaper earnings. However, lower newsprint costs and slightly better circulation numbers are positive for this sector. These stocks are not timely for investors in 2001 and 2002.
