No claps for CLERP: auditors fear that strict new proposals for reporting and independence will go too far

Auditors do not agree with the government additions to the draft bill of Clerp 9, due to restrictions like a four-year term being required on partners and staff leaving their firms to work with audit clients. Further requirements are there that auditors should report to ASIC within seven days any breach by their clients of the Corporations Act and any attempt to coerce, mislead, manipulate or influence them.

The delay of the Australian Government's corporate law economic reform program, CLERP 9 is due to the backlog of the other legislation's wait to draft. Senator Ian Campbell, Parliament secretary to the Treasure, stated that the delay due the administration and the program is due to be introduced in the end of July 2003.
