No matter how you vote, its costing you
Article Abstract:
The latest 1998 federal election is costing Australian taxpayers nearly quadruple what it did in 1987. Under the national policy that underwrites campaigning and allows unrestricted advertising, the $100 million spent on the election adds up to $7 per voter. Most of the money is spent on electronic advertising, with the remainder of the funds going to electorate research and direct mail campaigns.
