Total quality management (TQM) or continuous quality improvement, is generally utilized in the manufacturing or service sectors, however is can be successfully implemented in the health care industry. In order for this to happen health care learning institutions must develop a leading role and the emphasis of health care management must center on developing a commercial perspective to goals.

Critical factors in quality management and guidelines for self-assessment: The case of Singapore
Article Abstract:
An instrument designed to measure the critical factors of quality management was tested on 33 manufacturing and service firms in Singapore. The Saraph et al. instrument appeared to be reliable and valid and may be used by management on an ongoing basis as a framework for self-assessment at regular intervals.
