The market for oilfield services and equipment in North America has improved in early 2001 and this has improved earnings gains for the industry. However, the level of activity at the international level has not seen similar activity. These stocks are timely in 2001 and this is expected to remain the case for several years.

The North American oil field services and equipment industry has been aided in the year 2001 by higher natural gas prices, thus increasing rig use. Unfortunately, the international market has not improved by the same degree. Investors must consider safety as well as timeliness when evaluating these stocks.
