On the construct validity of intrinsic sources of personal relevance

Article Abstract:

Some of the pitfalls involved in construct validity or measurement research of intrinsic sources of personal relevance (ISPR) are discussed, dwelling particularly on the limitations of on Richard L. Celsi et. al.'s study on the construct validity of ISPR. The most reasonable approach in examining construct validity is to start with theory. Only after the conceptual and theoretical foundations of the construct validity are established should validation or confirmatory analysis be performed.

A rejoinder to Naresh Malhotra's critique of the construct validity of intrinsic sources of personal relevance (ISPR) posits the view that construct validity is a problem of theoretical generalization. The crucial issues in construct validity consist of interpreting the theoretical meaning of empirical research, creating scientific constructs and formulating inferences about the general applicability of those constructs. Though important, measurement issues are not the central focus.

The construct validity of intrinsic sources of personal relevance: an intra-individual source of felt involvement

Article Abstract:

The construct validity of intrinsic sources of personal relevance (ISPR), an intra-individual source of felt involvement, is examined. The internal consistency and the convergent, discriminant and nomological validity of ISPR are calculated and tested using a structural equation method. Results indicate that ISPR is a valid construct, since its measures were demonstrated to achieve internal consistency as well as convergent and discriminant validity.
