Options revival seems warranted
Article Abstract:
The Australian exchange-traded option-market has revived, as institutional investors have taken an interest in derivative products. In 1998, the derivatives market fell by 30% from its peak in 1994. The Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) rebuilt its infrastructure for the options market, including an accreditation program requiring brokers advising on derivatives to take a test. The average daily volume of options contracts traded in May 1999 was 41,500, a 22% increase over May 1998. ASX's global rating in options moved from 12 to 10.
