Optus bundles up for business
Article Abstract:
Cable and Wireless Optus Ltd., the telecommunications giant, has diversified beyond its telecommunications services and has begun to bundle products to gain its share of customer spending. Optus customers can save on service charges by choosing telephony packages bundled with with pay television and Internet services. By the end of June 1999, Optus plans to have 170,000 local telephony subscribers directly connected to its bundled cable network. Optus' alliance with Exite@Home is another strategy to integrate Internet products.

Grundy's new game

Australian Reg Grundy is creating two new empires: a radio group and an Internet new-media enterprise. His company RJ Capital has four divisions, including RJ Capital Radio and RJ Capital Multimedia. Since 1996, Grundy has been expanding into regional FM radio. RG Capital Radio has 25 licenses and an audience of 4.5 million. RG Capital Multimedia is looking to invest in Internet companies, including an online auction house and a financial services group. Overall, RJ Capital has about $700 million in assets and no debts.
