Oracle plays catch-up in business-to-business market

Business software giant Oracle is hoping to claim some of the business-to business commerce that has been claimed by niche leaders Ariba and Commerce One. Oracle is also looking over their shoulder at Siebel Systems that has marked software to manage work of a sales force.

Oracle's profit beat estimates for the quarter

Oracle Corp. reported fiscal fourth-quarter results in excess of analysts' estimates. Net income reached $4.9 billion over last year's $527.4 million, with a diluted share price of $1.63. Operating income also jumped to $926 million from $527 million and sales rose from last year's $2.94 billion to $3.37 billion.

Oracle president, operations chief quits; Lane's departure is a sign of Ellison's new stamp on big software firm

Oracle Corp. COO and President Raymond J. Lane has resigned from the company. Oracle CEO Lawrence Ellison says that Lane's duties had been reduced over the long term and that Ellison himself has taken on more involvement in the running of the company. Ellison said that Lane's resignation has been in the works for awhile.
