Packard Bell to name Couder to its top post
Article Abstract:
Sacramento, Calif.-based Packard Bell NEC Inc. announced that it will name Alain Couder as its new president and CEO in the wake of company co-founder Beny Alagem's sudden resignation recently. Mr. Couder, a French businessman who is the former head of France's Groupe Bull, will take the post once at Packard Bell on October 1, 1998 after he receives his US visa clearance. There is speculation the Mr. Alagem's sudden departure was based on conflicts he was having with majority partners in Japan and Europe who disagreed with Alagem over the company direction. After Packard Bell's success in selling PCs through retail outlets, the leadership change comes at a time when the company is being hit hard by competitors in the US domestic market.
