Paper & forest products industry
Article Abstract:
The paper industry's earnings improved in the last quarter of 1994 as a result of exports and higher prices. However, investors should keep in mind that the stocks of paper and paperboard companies may fall if the economy suffers a downturn. This cyclical industry may exceed the peak reached in 1989, although a strike at the Fletcher Canada pulp mill threatens to spread to other companies.

Paper & forest products industry
Article Abstract:
Higher prices are expected to help the paper industry, and further gains should stimulate sales of coated paper products and newsprint. Nevertheless, only a few paper companies are considered good investments in 1995. The wood industry remains slow because of curtailed construction. A short season upswing may occur, but a general decline is expected to continue until the end of 1996.
