Paying the price
Article Abstract:
A personal narrative of the events that led up to, and the consequences that resulted from committing white-collar crimes against mutual fund investors are presented. The author joined John Galanis' tax shelter business, believing it offered him the opportunity to achieve financial and professional success quickly. After becoming aware of company statements known to be false, the author ignored the magnitude of the crimes and their consequences. The arrogance and lack of remorse shown by Galanis led to his conviction for racketeering, tax fraud, and securities fraud, and the author pled guilty to two felonies, tax fraud and fraud on a mutual fund. The factors leading to moral breakdown in the investment fund included fear of failure and reliance on secret meetings.

Price discrimination and monopolistic competition
Article Abstract:
Perfect price discrimination holds true in a monopoly economy but does not lead to the first best welfare optimum in a multiple firm economy. The welfare implications of policies facilitating increased price discrimination are ambiguous when measured in terms of product diversity. This research has laid the foundation for future studies on measuring empirically the extent of price discrimination and the complications of price discrimination.
