Article Abstract:

In 1981 the Australian Government instigated, for its departments, the ADP Strategic Plan which requires three-year proposals for advanced office systems plus detailed yearly reports. The training of staff to implement these systems is crucial. Vendor training and in-house procedures training require good teaching skills. Schools and private training organizations provide courses. The Department of the Treasury, according to Graeme Walker, is developing a multi-stage process for integrating word processing with information processing. The director of the systems group is responsible for training.

ComputerLand Eastern Suburbs (Australia) offers its customers a electronic mail system labeled CLEM which can support any of the client's machines. Customers receive product bulletins and newsletters and can place orders with ComputerLand through the system. The only charge is for usage. In addition, users have access to a text editor for creating messages. Documents may be exchanged locally or transmitted internationally for at least half the cost of Telex. CLEM provides other services such as appointment scheduling and an up-to-date international airline guide.
