Petrol prices fuel inflation
Article Abstract:
Australian crude oil prices directly affect the price of retail gasoline and the country's inflation rate. Generally, a $1 per barrel crude oil increase translates to a one cent per liter increase in gasoline. With rising crude prices and government taxes added to retail gasoline, gasoline could add 0.75% to 1.0% to the consumer price index during 1999.
