Wheat board prepares for a trade revolution

The Australian government is exiting the nation's wheat industry by listing the Australian Wheat Board (AWB) with the stock exchange. The AWB has sales of around $4 billion per year and 62,000 shareholders, and is expected to rank instantly in the top 50 stocks. About A$550 million will be raised for capital via a 2% wheat-selling levy, and creation of AWB Ltd. is planned for 1999.
