Pilots union at Northwest ratifies accord

Northwest Airlines' pilot leaders gave their approval to a proposed four-year labor contract. Their approval comes 15 days after the airline halted operations. Northwest is expecting to post losses for the third and fourth quarters of 1998 as a result of the pilots strike. The carrier is also expecting to post losses for the entire 1998 year. Wall Street analysts predicted that Northwest would post an approximately 20% drop in 1998 profits before the strike.

TWA says turnaround is on track, indicating a return to profitability
Article Abstract:
Trans World Airlines (TWA) claimed that its strategy for turning the carrier around may finally be working. In recent years, TWA has experienced losses. One analyst predicts that TWA will post earnings of 25 cents a fully diluted share in the second quarter of 1998. Others believe the airline will see earnings of 50 cents a share. Since June 30, 1996, TWA has posted only two profitable quarters.

TWA recalls veteran to restore its image
Article Abstract:
Trans World Airlines (TWA) recalled Donald Casey to the carrier in order to remake its damaged brand image. Mr. Casey rejoined TWA in 1997 as an executive vice president of marketing. The airline will begin a corporate advertising campaign in August 1998 that will give business travelers the attributes of an aviator. Travelers will be portrayed as resourceful, courageous, and determined.
