The power industry is a new industry that is comprised of a variety of companies which were established to take advantage of energy deregulation, such as merchant energy companies and independent power producers. Distributed power generation is another result of deregulation, also. Several of these stocks are risky, but many also have potential for investors.

Electric utility (central) industry
Article Abstract:
Legislation permitting electric utility competition has been enacted and signed in Texas, although it has yet to begin. Other states in the South and Middle West have also moved toward deregulation, but more slowly. Investors need to consider only the most financially strong utilities, as deregulation has created uncertainty for the industry.
