The earnings potential of QBE Insurance Group, an Australia based company is examined. Frank O'Halloran, chief executive of the company, has forecasted a growth of 4 percent on overall premium rates. It may be recalled that most of the insurance companies in Australia are resorting to price-cutting in view of competition. QBE's plus points apparently are its international operation.

QBE Insurance Group was a part of an insurer of the World Trade Center USA, and after September attacks, it incurred a big loss after reinsurance, but investors wondered whether reinsurers would remain viable in the face of such immense damage to property and business. After September 11, 2001, companies have not only raised premiums, but increased the policy exclusions as well.
