Prime minster, president resign

Pakistan's Prime Minster Sharif and President Ishaq Khan resigned Jul 18, 1993, as part of a military-negotiated deal that called for new elections to be held in Oct 1993. Sharif and Ishaq Khan had been battling for power in Pakistan. Moeen Qureshi will govern in the interim.

President dissolves government

Pakistani Pres Ghulam Ishaq Khan responded to charges that Pakistan was being used as a base for Islamic militants by dissolving the National Assembly and dismissing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Apr 18, 1993. Balakh Sher Mazari was appointed caretaker prime minister.

Sharif reinstated as prime minister
Article Abstract:
The Supreme Court of Pakistan held that the Apr 1993 dismissal of Prime Minister Sharif was unconstitutional and ordered his reinstatement on May 26, 1993. Sharif won a vote of confidence on May 27, 1993.
