Processes with nearly-sequential routings: a comparative analysis
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the effect of slight departures from purely-sequential flows on process performance. A full factorial simulation was used to examine the effects of product attributes such as the job size and the number of products and the effects of process attributes such as set-up time, operation-time variance, flow dominance and parallel processing capability. Results show that the performance measured by average flow times and variance can be made better by eliminating non-standard routings.

Workplace safety: a call for research
Article Abstract:
Workplace safety has become an important issue in the field of operations management as a result of the confluence of several factors. These variables include the quality movement, technological innovations, changes in operations practices, workforce diversity, organized labor concerns, political and legal forces, and public opinion. In light of the impact of these developments on operations management, researchers should weave these issues into their studies.

Testing a model of pull production: a paradigm for manufacturing research using structural equation modeling
Article Abstract:
A paradigm for assessing unidimensionality using confirmatory factor analysis was presented. It was also shown that conditions of unidimensionality are not assessed by conventional metrics. A theoretical model that associates setup improvement practices and preventive maintenance to pull production and pull production to delivery dependability was discussed along with three hypotheses.
