Project managers and functional managers: a case study of job satisfaction in a matrix organization
Article Abstract:
Project managers expressed higher job satisfaction than functional managers in a government research and development agency which uses a matrix or cross-functional organizational structure. The low level of job satisfaction of functional managers is attributed to the negative hygiene factors such as interpersonal relations, management style, company policy, working conditions, accomplishment, responsibility and teamwork. Moreover, project managers differ from functional managers in their preference as to the appropriate type of matrix to be used.

"Thanks, Josh."
Article Abstract:
A teacher and project management expert took a plane trip one day and happened to sit with a young boy named Josh who was taking his very first plane trip. Although initially scared, Josh soon relaxed and became fascinated with the magic of air travel. Josh's reactions shows that the extent to which expectations about experiences are fulfilled or surpassed largely determine people's perceptions of the quality of those experiences.
