Stagnation in the traditional markets is the publishing industry's most important issue in the 1990s and the periodical segment must adapt to a new environment and invest in new technologies. Payment protection and electronic payment systems are also having an impact on the printing sector, and growth here seems to be strong. However, these shares have underperformed the market and are expected to trail the market in 1999 and the year 2000.
