Quality management self-assessment: an examination in European business
Article Abstract:
Companies can use the quality management self-assessment model to examine their strengths and weaknesses, and monitor the progress of their improvement process. A study was conducted to determine quality management self-assessment in six European countries: the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands. Results showed that total quality model is still related to process control or to improvements and participation of employees. Despite the popularity of the European Quality Award, there remains confusion regarding the difference between conformance-oriented audits based on the ISO 9000 and an improvement-oriented self-assessment based on the broad definition of TQM. Quality management self-assessment is still unpopular and not sufficiently understood. Nevertheless, many are intending to initiate self-assessment programs.

Freedom of movement for professionals: an assessment of the effectiveness of European Union policy and the barriers that remain
Article Abstract:
European Union policy that allows professionals from member countries to migrate and practice their profession in another member country without having to requalify has been slow to evolve. However, such an impediment has not deterred the migration of professionals who demonstrate a willingness to undergo requalification. Identification of such barriers for various immigrant types is imperative to reducing the impact of forces working against freedom of movement.
