Reaching for the Stars

People have various habits and hobbies that help them relax or give them enjoyment. For some the nighttime sky offers an opportunity they do not get anywhere else. The thrill of astronomy catches many. Amateur sky gazers number in the hundreds of thousands and they spend millions of dollars to support their hobby. The reasons for the interest in astronomy are as varied as the people who pursue the hobby - some do it for the sheer pleasure and contentment they get from looking at the stars and planets, while others pursue it to help add to the wealth of human knowledge.

There are an estimated six and one half million Americans who enjoy the pleasures of trapshooting. This organized sport involves shooting clay targets which are mechanically hurled up in the air. To be successful at trapshooting requires an almost perfect aim. One year a woman's winning score averaged ninety-eight per cent. Some participants view trapshooting as a break from their regular routine, and others enjoy the competition with themselves, always trying to do their best.
