ReplayTV will exit direct set-top sales, focus on licensing software to others

ReplayTV plans to discontinue sales of it's interactive-television set-top recorders and focus on licensing software and offer video-recorder services for other companies. CEO Kim LeMasters has resigned, to be replaced by Anthony Wood. Companies that had contracted to advertise on ReplayTV will be released from the pact. The Mountain View company plans to provide the technology behind the devices. They plan some layoffs.

Tentative pact is reached for Web-music licensing
Article Abstract:
A tentative online-music licensing agreement has been reached by the sound recording industry and music publishers. The agreement is not yet final but is an attempt to prevent copyright lawsuits by music publishers when the sound recording industry introduces its online music services called pressplay and MusicNet.

Patriotism edges out promotion in messages designed to unite U.S
Article Abstract:
In the wake of the attacks on the World Trade Center, advertisers and outdoor ad companies are quickly changing consumerist messages to those of community spirit. Some promoters are offering messages on where and how to donate and help with the relief effort. The Outdoor Advertising Association of America is displaying a simple patriotic message as is Matsushita Electric Industrial which operates the Times Square display. Companies are also putting up similar messages on posters on pay phones. American flags are becoming ubiquitous on outdoor ads, everywhere.
