Rescuing leadership from Humpty Dumpty
Article Abstract:
The word 'leadership' has different meanings to different people. Employees have their own opinions as to the qualities of a good leader. A good leader may be described as one who creates a productive work environment, turns around an organization, or motivates employees. An understanding of the differences between micro and macro leadership can lead to an understanding of the various meanings of leadership. Micro leadership is characterized by a job and task orientation, an emphasis on short-term performance, and an adaptation of leadership style to a particular situation. Macro leadership is characterized by a team and organization orientation, an emphasis on long-term performance, and the performance of the leadership role in the organization. Perception, articulation, conviction, and empathy are the leadership abilities that interact in the visioning process used by leaders, which involves creating the psychological framework for cooperative common action.

The paradox of managerial leadership
Article Abstract:
Effective management involves administration, organizational leadership and supervisory leadership. Administrators merely assume responsibilities by getting things done. Leaders, on the other hand, supervise by doing things right and stimulating people to do the proper things. The three characteristics, administrative ability, organizational leadership and supervisory leadership are integral parts of management and veer away from bureaucratic, inefficient and inflexible organizations. Another quality, inspirational leadership is exercised by managers who do not have to resort to coercion or authority in stimulating people into purposeful actions. This quality would make a good manager a transformer by generating a vision for the organization.

Eight leadership types and the transforming autocrat: as derived from Burns' basic criteria
Article Abstract:
Previous research in the area of leadership types is extended to identify several other leadership types. Special attention is given to the 'transforming autocrat' type of leader. This type of manager wields a great deal of power but shares a high degree of mutual interests with followers. The transforming autocrat is therefore able to elicit the commitment of followers and to create a vision of the future that causes performance to exceed expectations.
