Revenge of the Christmas novels

The spate of profitable moralistic or inspirational 'Christmas novels' in recent years has led a wide variety of writers to try the format. Many have nothing to do with Christmas er se, but usually contain sappy plots about dying children. Elizabeth Marshall Thomas's 'Certain Poor Shepherds' is recommended.

In Japanese novels, it's business as usual

The 'business novel' has been an established Japanese genre since the 1950s. Ikko Shimizu's short story, 'Keiretsu,' from the colelction, 'The Dark Side of Japanese Business,' is an amateur anthropologist's delight, revealing shady business ethics and processes almost without characterization.
