Broadcam puts cable-modem circuitry on single chip, a lap for the industry

A major breakthrough has been achieved in the computer chip industry with an announcement by Broadcom Corp. that it has successfully produced a chip that contains the circuitry required for meshing TV signals and computer data. Industry analysts have said that the new chip will allow companies to transmit Internet voice, video and data communications through television cables. Broadcom, which is based in Irvine, Calif., expects to sell the new chips for about fifty dollars each for small orders and for less than that for large orders.

Broadcom Corp. plans public offering, with most of sale to come from insiders
Article Abstract:
Broadcom Corp. is planning to implement a public offering of three million common shares. Of the shares, 2.6 million will be offered by present inside holders. Broadcom also announced that it is expecting to post net income of 16 cents to 17 cents a diluted share for the third-quarter of 1998. Analysts had predicted net income of 14 cents per share for the company. Broadcom is a manufacturer of computer chips.
