SBC to buy PacTel for $24 billion

SBC Communications Inc announced on Apr 1, 1996, that it plans to purchase Pacific Telesis Group in a $24 billion stock and debt-assumption deal. If approved, the combined Baby Bell will be the second largest telecommunications firm in the US, with annual revenues of $21 billion.

US West buys stake in Time Warner unit
