Shouldn't Toyota stick to cars? As company branches out, investors spin their tires
Article Abstract:
If it all works out profitably, Toyota will be thought of as a strategic genius, if not, investors lose. The concern is about all the seemingly unrelated investments at a time when prudence should probably prevail. Although it has invested about two-thirds in automobile-related businesses, the company is also into financial services, golf course operation, mobile telephones and long-distance phone service, prefab homes and map making, to name a few. There could be good reason that foreigners do not invest in Toyota nearly as much as in Honda or Sony.
