Article Abstract:

Ecuador faces serious environmental and economic problems with the death of cultivated shrimps from fungicides used by the banana growers. Shrimps are the country's third largest exports and a significant source of employment. However, the government has been unable to address the problem, failing to provide economic incentives to promote the discontinued use of fungicides and being powerless to ban the use of fungicides.

Costa Rican coffee producer Cafe Britt S.A.'s Pres. and CEO Steve Aronson developed effective ways to introduce Cafe Britt products to both the international and domestic markets. His efforts included creating a niche for gourmet coffee in the domestic market, offering tours of Cafe Britt's coffee roasting plant to tourists and establishing distribution offices in the US, Canada, and Europe.
