Sinking shots and sinking costs? Or how long can I play in the NBA
Article Abstract:
A field study was carried out by researchers at the University of California in Berkeley to determine whether sunk costs affect the decision making activities of National Basketball Assn. (NBA) clubs. Toughness and quickness were held constant for all players to evaluate commitment to a player as a performance measure rather than as a result of his draft pick. Results suggest that high scorers were given more playing time while defensive and rebounding skills were not associated with playing time. These findings indicate that NBA coaches based their decision on individual performance rather than on team-oriented capabilities.

Challenges of leading a diverse workforce
Article Abstract:
Loss of organizational attachment and perceived lack of empathy are two of the most critical problems encountered by human resource managers who work in a highly-diversified environment. Personnel managers who are tasked to work under such conditions also experience difficulties in adjusting to time pressures and responding to various worker needs. To address these problems, it is essential for human resource managers to enhance their skills in supporting long-term corporate growth.

Safety isn't simple
Article Abstract:
Workplace accidents are often blamed upon the carelessness or accident proneness of the injured employees. However, in a study conducted by Purdue University researchers, it was found out that organizational factors play major roles in industrial safety. An organization's accident record is influenced by safety records, pressure on employees caused by lack of time, resource or training, and communication and coordination processes between employees.
