So you want to be a forensic accountant: accountants are taking on a new role: expert witness
Article Abstract:
Forensic accounting denotes the use of accounting disciplines in determining issues in business litigation, and is becoming a growth segment of the profession. Forensic accountants should possess such personal attributes as perseverance, ability to cope with time pressures, creativity, and self-constraint. They should also be able to articulate their positions logically and concisely. Forensic accountants deal with litigation that involves such issues as loss of income or contractual disputes, and they are frequently involved in the discovery process, which involves examination of the opposing party's information. They should document their procedures and sources of information with great care. As expert witnesses forensic accountants can be most effective with such techniques as being sincere, avoiding anger, being prepared to recite details of all professional credentials, and having an objective review done of their work by a colleague.
