Space station downsizing begun

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration revealed Mar 10, 1993, plans for redesigning the proposed space station 'Freedom' to make it smaller, less expensive and easier to build. The changes would include reducing the module's planned lifespan and requiring fewer space shuttle flights.

Russian cosmonaut returns home

Russian cosmonaut Sergei Krikalyov, who had been aboard the Mir space station since May 1991, returned home on Mar 25, 1992. The landing had been postponed from Oct 1991 due to budget cuts and political problems.
