Sport: the new media power
Article Abstract:
Sports are a major market for media companies, advertisers, and investors, as televised sporting events draw a larger audience than films or anything in the screen-entertainment genre. Sports as a global business will continue to prosper as new media, such as digital television and the Internet, continue to grow. Demands for the rights to sporting events and sponsorship of teams may eventually lead to teams listing on stock exchanges. Pay television will become a large factor in the value of sports rights, as the government relaxes its laws against pay-television operators buying the rights for sporting events.

Relative values: listed family companies markedly outperform the All Ordinaries index
Article Abstract:
Family companies outperform other companies listed on stock exchanges for several reasons. Family members have all their wealth involved in the business; therefore, these companies are not vulnerable to takeovers. Family companies make long term decisions, and these companies join the stock exchange during a major growth phase for the company. Even though these companies perform well, industry analysts believe there is a greater potential for conflict of interest.
