Store sales get a boost, with a little outside help

Microsoft Australia belongs to a group of companies that employ outside firms for field marketing. Microsoft uses Creative Sales employees to demonstrate their products, set up point-of-sale material and displays, train retail staff, and collect sales data in preparation for the June 25 launch of the Windows 98 operating system. A Creative Sales official claims that outsourcing field marketing can cut a company's cost by 3 to 5% and increase its sales.

The late 1990s have produced the jaded shopper in Australia. These shoppers are caution about purchasing new items because of job insecurity. These shoppers are also tired of marketing and not as interested in purchasing domestically-made products. These shoppers do not have much time to shop. There were not significant differences in the products that men and women shoppers plan to buy.

Dairy co-op smiles for the camera and says 'Coon.'(Dairy Farmers)

The Dairy Farmers cooperative's late 1997 purchase of Kraft Foods' Australian cheddar cheese business has increased Dairy Farmers share of the country's cheddar market from 5% to 22%. The deal, worth a rumored A$20 million, increases the cooperative's turnover by A$100 million and gives it the size it needs to modernize and rationalize its factories and invest in advertising.
