Strategic issue management: an integrated framework
Article Abstract:
Strategic issues are impending external or internal events which could undermine or enhance the ability of an organization to achieve its goals. In a constantly changing environment, business leaders are compelled to forsake traditional periodic strategic planning for real-time processes that allow them to address strategic issues as they emerge. A model is presented that is designed to help managers evaluate the importance of strategic issues, determine the best time to process them and then decide how to manage these issues. The model is conceptualized as a cube with axes symbolizing the three key components of strategic behavior. These are the problem dimension, the process dimension, and the rationality dimension or scientific optic.

Strategy mix and the industry mind-set
Article Abstract:
Strategic management may regress if it is not making progress, so it is preferable to challenge prevailing schools of thought. Both the strategy and the industry mindset are important, offering major potential for development. Supermarkets and home shopping are used as examples, as is the funerals industry of the UK which has been invaded by US and French entrants. Detergent and emergent strategies and juggling of them are discussed.
