Successful networking
Article Abstract:
Networking is an important activity for individuals looking for new jobs. This practice involves initiatives for establishing connections with people who might be useful in a job search. The initial step in networking is to create a database of contacts. They may be subdivided into five categories: people who can offer a job immediately, those can offer a job in the near future, introduce the searcher to a person planning to hire someone, inform the searcher of a job opening or opportunities, and offer information about a person or company. This list should help job hunters determine where to look for jobs, focusing on areas where quick results are possible. Searchers should also broaden their network by participating in professional and community organizations, and attending events sponsored by these groups. Involvement in committees, offering assistance to other members and writing for newsletters or magazines also help build important networks.

Beyond benefits
Article Abstract:
Companies that want to recruit and retain talented accounting and finance employees should reexamine the incentives that they offer to these individuals. The most popular tools for enticing new candidates are compensation and financial incentives, including salaries, raises and bonuses. They should keep pace or surpass industry and local market standards and be set according to employee performance. Although these monetary perks can help during recruitment, they are not enough to retain the best employees. Providing opportunities for professional advancement is one good way of retaining employees. Companies should promote from within because this encourages them to work harder. Another important retention tool is the corporate culture. An environment that is characterized by frequent recognition, open communication, creativity and sharing of ideas is ideal for retaining key employees.
