Succession and retirement: three ways to cash in on your equity
Article Abstract:
There are three ways for business owners to cash in on their equity in the process of preparing for eventual retirement and turnover of a company to a successor. The first is to recapitalize common stockholders' equity account, which involves converting the majority of one's preferred stock into common stock. The second method is to offer stock to family members or other people on an installment basis. Finally, one can make use of a private annuity. Each method has its own share of strengths and disadvantages.
