TV violence rating system mandated
Article Abstract:
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission ruled on Mar 14, 1996, that Canadian and US broadcasters must develop a rating system for violent programming that would be compatible with the V-chip. Canadian cable firms are currently testing a six-level rating system.

Networks vow TV violence warnings
Article Abstract:
The four major television networks, ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox Television, have agreed to issue warnings before violent television programs. The warnings will begin in the fall 1993 season. Federal lawmakers had threatened to impose a rating system if the networks failed to devise a plan.

Network syndication curbs lifted

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Apr 1, 1993, removed the limits on the television networks' participation in the rebroadcasting of television programs. The FCC took the step because the network's share of prime-time viewership has significantly declined.
