Tel-Save plans to pick Battista chairman, CEO

Daniel Borislow will step down as chairman and CEO of Tel-Save Holdings Inc. and allow Gabriel Battista to take over all operational duties of the long-distance firm based in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Borislow caused some investor concern earlier in the year when he announced that the company wanted to be acquired, then tried to retract his statement. Battista brings valued Internet experience to the post coming from the domain name giver, Network Solutions Inc. Tel-Save markets its services via the Internet, plans to start invoicing exclusively on the Net and will add .com to its name.

AT&T Bell Labs picks Mayo to succeed Ross in president's post

AT&T Bell Laboratories names John S Mayo as president of the telecommunications industry research unit. Mayo succeeds Ian M Ross, who assumes the title of president emeritus and will assist Randall Tobias for the rest of 1991 in work that involves international expansion for the telephone company. Mayo, who is 61, has been in charge of network systems and services. He has two primary goals: keeping Bell Labs as the foremost research and development laboratory in the industry and bringing technology from the lab to market as quickly as possible.
