Telstra converges on broadcasting Oracle

Telstra Corporation Ltd., in its attempt to become a force in Australian interactive Internet television, has partnered with Oracle Corp. Telstra wants to become a content provider as well as a broadcaster. Telstra is dissatisfied with its three-way partnership in operating Foxtel, a pay-television operator. Adding to its tension with partners, Telstra is also considering an alliance with John Fairfax Holdings Ltd. to provide content for the interactive television business. The global market for interactive television by 2004 is estimated at $18 billion.

On February 9, 2004 Foster's Group expects a decision to overhaul the executive ranks of the group's global wine business and even the chief executive, Ted Kunkel who has been 12 years at the helm may be expected to step down, there being a list of potential candidates. An on-market, buyback for up to 100 million shares is expected and Lensworth property assets for $300 million-plus are expected to be sold.
